I am afraid this capital city is losing its greenery. A lust green garden opposite Paryatak Bhavan stretching from old Patto Bridge to foot bridge on the banks of Orem Creek having different types of trees full of biodiversity.
I have witnessed glow worms while passing by at night which is rare in Panjim city. This garden has been destroyed and construction in the name of tourist recreation centre is in full swing. Who will convince the authorities that the tourists come to see nature in Goa and the garden with glow worm could have been a great attraction for the tourists in Panjim at night.

Panjimites did not demand joggers track at Campal but the belt of Casuarina trees which gave scenic beauty to coastal Campal area is destroyed to make way for joggers track from Miramar to Kala Academy.
The stretch of land along the D B Road on the right side on the way from Kala Academy to Sports Department has been fenced with barbed wires, with the signboard stating “Private property: Trespassers will be prosecuted”.
I wonder how this green area which was under water of Mandovi River during Portuguese time and which Panjimites assumed for all these years to be the government property belonging to Sports Department suddenly becomes private property. This area had rare type of fruit trees called as English tamarind unfamiliar to Goa which are cut.
No doubt Panjim’s future generation will miss this beautiful stretch of land now being private and roadside commercial building will come up in near future.
Can the Panjimites hope from the city authorities to restore Orem Creek garden by stopping the construction. Joggers track is fine but will there be Casuarina replantation along its side. Can we expect tree plantation along the walls at all the open space and grounds such as Azad Maidan and joggers’ park at Altinho and other places in the city.
