We are in the middle of the hot summer season and PWD water supply has begun cutting down on water supply to Siolim and to many other parts of the State.
What is the exact status of the water level in dams? Should PWD press the panicky button so early?
Knowing we are facing the same problem every year, the PWD and WRD should take up water harvesting projects on a war footing and the TCP/Panchayats too should see that no projects are approved without water harvesting plan is put in place by the project holders/builders. However, despite all this the Town and Country Planning and the government continue to allow real estate sharks to build projects.
I have been keeping a track of the water supply meter reading to our building at Radha Park in Siolim and have noticed that there is a drop in the regular supply and for this shortfall we have to hire private tankers. The PWD officials were on record that water supply will improve after replacing the old pipelines of the village.
Interestingly, the same old pipelines have been delivering water above the normal level during June to March-end.
This only goes to prove there is something fishy going on and the replacing of the pipelines is mere eyewash for benefits for the select few and for some commission at the cost of exchequer.
For the past three days I have seen water overflowing into the just dug up drains for the renovation work on the slope of St Xavier’s College, this water is wasted.
And what is impossible to understand is that this happens right in front of the PWD officials, who live in the government colony and pumping station.
Unfortunately, no one seems to be bothered. I hope the Chief Engineer/ PWD minister will book these officials for negligence and wastage.
