Former Social Welfare Minister, Luis Alex Cardozo has demanded reservation of seats for the Scheduled Tribes in the coming Municipal polls scheduled in October 2010.
Cardozo said the request for reservation of seats for the ST community for the municipal polls has made to the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao long ago.
Saying that the municipal administration has conveyed to him the proposal for amendments being submitted for government approval, Cardozo hope the aam admi government will not force the STs to knock the doors of the High Court for the second time on the issue of reservations.
Meanwhile, Cardozo has said he had moved a proposal to the government to acquire communidade land admeasuring 34,000 sq mts at Torsanzor for allotment to the economically weaker sections.
Saying that a number of illegal structures have come up on the land since 1986, he said his proposal to the government for allotment of land under the 20-point programme was, however, not accepted.
