PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar promised to hold a meeting with the school managements during Diwali to arrive at a consensus on the issue of school timings, even as he said that Goa was last in the list when it came to number of school hours as well as the number of working days.
Parrikar also said that it was a challenge for the State Education Department to deal with the issues arising out of the no fail policy that has come along with the Right to Education Act.
“I will look at the issue of the school timings and hold a meeting with school managements to decide on the issue,” Parrikar said while replying to the discussion on demands for supplementary grants in the assembly on Thursday.
Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane first raised the issue of school timings while speaking during the discussion citing the pity he felt for the young schoolchildren who had to leave early in the morning and reach home after 2 pm often tired and hungry.
He had also raised the issue of the no fail policy which said while recommending continuous and comprehensive evaluation was leading students to put less effort and later end up failing once they cross class VIII.
He also said that this has affected the quality of students coming out of school.
