PANJIM: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Thursday disputed replies given by Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar on garbage disposal in Calangute.
When contacted to get his reaction on the replies given by the Tourism Minister in the House, Lobo said very little was being done to keep beaches in his coastal constituency clean. “It is very important to ensure that tourists are provided clean and safe beaches if we have to attract tourists to the State,” he mentioned.
While speaking in the House, Parulekar pointed out that the department engages services of private contractors for lifting and disposing of garbage including litter, plastic waste, bottles, bags and other waste and also the garbage generated by shacks, including from sand dunes, wild vegetation, parking areas, approach roads, access to beaches and so on.
