PANJIM: A meeting of Goa Industrial Development Corporation was held on Friday primarily to discuss the issue of illegal allotment of industrial plots. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The meeting on Friday called up all files pertaining to the issue for scrutiny. However, no final discussion was taken at the meeting, according to sources.
The GIDC has been under fire and scrutiny for some time especially with regard to transfers and the chief minister who now heads it had said that he had formulated a new scheme to stop the illegal allotment of plots at various industrial estates. He had said that according to the new policy 20 per cent of the plots will be reserved for government bodies, 40 per cent will be earmarked for locals while assuring that there would be transparency in allotment of plots in respective industrial estates.
This May, GIDC had notified the Goa IDC Transfer and Sub-lease Regulations, 2013.
According to new norms, no transfer will be permitted for new liquor or tobacco industries.
No sub-lease shall be allowed wherein an industrial unit has not completed a minimum of five years of commercial production. A screening committee with representation from industry bodies is to recommend cases after proper evaluation of proposals on transfers.
An investigation committee had exposed land and plot scams along with the involvement of officials of the corporation and political appointees.
