CM Holding 45 Portfolios Shows Lack of Trust in Cabinet, Says Opposition

In a sharp attack on the Pramod Sawant-led government, opposition leaders have criticized the Chief Minister for holding as many as 45 portfolios, suggesting it reflects a deep lack of confidence in his own Cabinet.

“When one person holds this many portfolios, it clearly indicates he doesn’t trust his ministers to handle key responsibilities,” an opposition member said, further alleging that the CM believes his team is incapable of managing governance effectively.

The criticism also targeted newly inducted ministers, with opposition leaders referring to them as “adopted MLAs” — a reference to defectors who were later rewarded with Cabinet posts. The opposition has questioned their administrative competence and legitimacy in holding power.

The remarks have intensified the ongoing political debate in the state over power concentration and Cabinet accountability. The government, however, has yet to officially respond to the accusations.
