PANJIM: The National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) on Wednesday made a presentation on the draft Goa Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) before Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, his cabinet and other MLAs, including those from opposition. Sources said the draft plan was presented to the Chief Minister who made some minor suggestions.
The draft plan, which will be submitted to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), will soon be placed in public domain for one month, seeking suggestions and objections, followed by district level public hearings.
NCSCM, in its draft plan, has proposed to notify fishing villages, wherein all foreshore facilities required for fishing and fishery allied activities would be permitted by the panchayats itself in areas under Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ).
Further, it has also proposed that Calangute, Candolim, Canacona, Taleigao and other ODP areas be demarcated as CRZ II.
The Union Ministry for Environment and Forests (MoEF) is the final authority to approve and notify the plan, after being placed before the National Coastal Zone Management Authority (NCZMA) for consideration.
