CUNCOLIM: In an interesting order, Additional Director of Municipal Administration Sheru Shirodkar has asked Cuncolim Municipal Council Chief Officer Shankar Gaonkar to inquire into and take action against those who have failed to safeguard municipal property, where CO Gaonkar himself is one of the accused.
Vice Chairperson Mario Morais had complained to Shirodkar, accusing Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas, Junior Engineer Nitin Kotharkar and CO Gaonkar of failing to protect the council property at Kalta, near KTC bus stand, which was acquired for a parking project, road widening and also to built an administrative building.
Morais had demanded that since all three of them failed to remove the encroachment they should be punished according to the law.
Taking the cognizance of Morais’ complaint, Shirodkar sent a letter to CO Gaonkar to study the matter, and if necessary, to take action against the accused. But the mute question is how can CO Gaonkar conduct an inquiry into his own conduct and take action against himself?
Meanwhile CMC has removed the encroachment at the complained place.
