CANACONA: To eradicate the pollution caused due to usage of plastic bags of lower gauge, Canacona Municipal Council (CMC), in its meeting held recently, has decided to impose hefty fines on anyone dealing in plastic bags of less than 50 micron thickness.
CMC passed a resolution to ban the use of plastic at the meeting held recently by the council members.
CMC Chairperson Neetu Desai said that the ban which will come into effect shortly prohibits use of plastic bags lower than 50 microns in thickness for storing, transporting, dispensing or packaging food items and other edible products.
“The ban will be implemented strictly and market inspectors will be empowered to check and impose fine on the defaulters,” She said.
