MARGAO: District Collector, south N D Agrawal on Friday issued directions to various agencies to arrange security and illumination arrangements at the old Margao railway station premises and the adjoining footbridge.
At a meeting in the district Collectorate, directions were issued to the PWD for the proper maintenance of the footbridge and its illumination in view of the fact that the bridge has been handed over to the PWD.
Similar direction were issued to the Power department to ensure proper illumination of the old station premises, while directions went to the Men-in-uniform to constantly monitor the area and keep the anti-socials at bay.
Agrawal told Herald after the meeting that he has spoken to the railway officials based in Hubli on the maintenance of the old Margao station premises. “I have told the railway officials to either hand it over to the KRC or the district administration for maintenance. We had made it clear that the area cannot be allowed to be used for anti-social activities”, Agrawal said.
Meanwhile, the district Collector descended at Hoddem along with DySP Mohan Naik to take stock of the law and order problem between two groups over a Temple dispute. The collector has now called a meeting in his office on February 16 to work out a solution to the problem.
