MARGAO, JAN 20
Individuals, NGOs or organisations, beware. If you happen to misuse the logo and name of the National Human Rights Commission, you may face strict action from the authorities.
For, the NHRC has written to the State Chief Secretaries to initiate action against individuals, NGOs and organisations misusing the name and logo of the Commission and misleading the public.
The NHRC’s communiqué has been dispatched to the two district Collectors, besides the district superintendents of police for immediate action.
Besides action, the Commission has asked the Chief Secretary to direct the Registrar of Societies in the State not to register any organisation having similar name, acronym, or logo as NHRC, India.
Commission’s Secretary General K S Money said the Commission has neither a provision for registration, affiliation of the individuals, NGOs or organisation nor have authorised anyone to act on its behalf.
“The individuals, NGOs and organisations using the NHRC logo, name or writing “having association  with NHRC or words to the effect misleading the public by misusing the name of the Commission will render themselves liable for legal action”, Money said.
He further said that the name and logo of the National Human Rights Commission has been listed in the Schedule of Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 under entry number 26 and 27. The improper use and misuse of the logo and the name of the commission is punishable as per the Act”, he added.
While calling upon the district Magistrates and Superintendents of police to initiate immediate action against such individuals and NGOs found misusing the name and logo of the commission, the NHRC has further issued directions to ensure that nobody misuses the name and logo of the NHRC for personal gains.
