MARGAO: The Colva gram sabha on Sunday criticised the delay in taking up the work on the proposed health centre, and resolved that the matter be taken up with the local MLA to sort out the issues with the Tourism Department and other government agencies.
It may be recalled that Alexandre Fernandes, the ex-president of the Goan diaspora association ‘Colva United Centre, Kuwait’, had moved a proposal under the State NRI commission scheme ‘Mhozo Gaum Mhojem Goem’ for the construction of a health centre. Through this scheme, the funding for the project is shared by the association and the State government.
At the last gram sabha, it was informed that the panchayat had already granted an NOC for the project. Alexandre had also informed that 600 square meters of land had been identified by the Tourism Department and that the project would be constructed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC). A unanimous resolution was then passed for the early implementation of the health centre.
At Sunday’s gram sabha, it was revealed that there were some issues with the project, and since it was not going forward as planned, the members decided to approach the government through the local MLA’s office to expedite the matter.
The gram sabha also discussed the parking problems and traffic congestion at Colva beach.
