Survey to check if these adhered to parking plans

PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panjim will conduct a survey and check if there are commercial buildings that have not adhered to the parking plans submitted by them, officials said. At present there is a ban on new construction licenses for commercial buildings as the parking problems of the capital city have still to be sorted out.
Admitting that there is pressure to restart issuing of licenses due to the “large amount of money that the corporation can get form the licenses,” Mayor Surendra Furtado admitted to the problem of non-adherence to plans and the accompanying spillage onto the roads by vehicles belonging to commercial buildings in the capital.
“I will call for the files; we will check. A survey will be conducted,” the mayor said, when he was asked about the allegations from various quarters about the illegalities followed by builders on parking space.
“It is in the plan that for so many floors and so many flats there has to be so much parking. But at the time of occupancy slots are reduced is the allegation. If we find this then we will not give occupancy,” the mayor promised.
There are allegations that builders submit proper plans at the time of license as far as parking places (for number of vehicles) are concerned. However, once the plans are passed, at the time of occupancy then the number of slots is reduced and that space is utilised for other purposes.
Building guidelines and bylaws too have to be not only put in place but also rigorously enforced, residents say. There are allegations too that the CCP is not even monitoring whether there is construction activity going on without licenses.
A drive around the city and the abysmal parking situation in the city is evident with vehicles spilling on to the roads.
A cursory visit of all the hotels too sees parking for guests and taxis are on the main road, blocking the space for visiting vehicles and even sometimes halting the smooth flow of traffic.
