PANJIM: The opposition Congress in Goa on Wednesday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which celebrated its 42nd foundation, for failing to control rising prices of fuel and LPG cylinders and inflation.
“On the occasion of BJP’s Foundation Day, we request Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, party office-bearers and workers to demand Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reduce prices of cooking gas, petrol and diesel. This will prove that BJP was founded to serve the people and not to loot them,” Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Media Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar said.
Panjikar pointed out that it was the same BJP, which had promised to maintain the prices of petrol in Goa below Rs 60 per litre but after a few years it forgot its own promise.
“The diesel and petrol prices remained unabated and were allowed to go up. Now it is impacting the common man. Prices of all essential commodities have gone up. Families are suffering, women are suffering. Even in the State Budget presented recently, the Chief Minister has not mentioned fuel prices. Ultimately people are suffering and BJP is celebrating its Foundation Day. Any party which was founded to serve the people should not do so,” Panjikar said.
