PANJIM: Congress has threatened the Election Commission of India (ECI) of approaching the High Court if the commission delays its response on the complaint filed against the appointment of Deputy Chief Ministers in March.
Congress spokesperson, Tulio D’Souza, referred to the complaint filed on March 21, against the appointment of two DY CMs on March 19 that allegedly violated the code of conduct; and lamented that they still have not received any response from the ECI. “It sends a wrong picture that there is hesitation on the part of Election Commission and it does not ensure a level playing field. It shakes the confidence not only of the political parties but also of the electorate of the country in the Election Commission of India. We still want to give another chance to the ECI and if it fails we will approach the High Court, “he added.
He added that Congress had reminded the ECI regarding its complaint on April 1, April 5 and then on April 7. We were informed earlier that a reply had been sought from the General Administration Departmentand then the reply was subsequently forwarded to the ECI.
