PANJIM: In the wake of coronavirus outbreak in India, the Congress has urged government to keep check on the entry points at State borders that are within its domain; rather than only focusing on passengers travelling via air mode.
The party has also sought to know whether State government has issued any advisory to educational institutions to maintain hygiene on account of mass gathering in the premise.

Addressing media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Trajano D’Mello said that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane spoke about seeking assistance from the Civil Aviation and Shipping Ministries that they should have official access into their areas to monitor/test and conduct other checks that may be required for the detection of the coronavirus.
“But the minister failed to explain as to what measures have been taken by the government to check people entering Goa by other modes of transport, which is the domain of the State government. Ministry’s advisories are mere lip service as he has not placed before the media the concrete steps taken to detect the virus at entry points,” he said.
D’Mello demanded that checks needs to be done at the entry points that are within the State domain.
He said the Health Minister should inform about what steps, assistance and advisories have been sent to schools, colleges and universities as students with regards to coronavirus precautions.
Pointing to the circular issued by Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, that due to this pandemic employees be exempted to mark biometric attendance, D’Mello said in view of this, will the State government take steps to sanitise the stamp (every time it is used) on ballot paper during the Zilla Panchayat elections, besides the indelible ink to mark the finger which is also a cause for grave concern?
