In a dramatic finish to the Zilla Parishad elections in Maharashtra’s Latur district, a Congress candidate emerged victorious by a slender margin of just two votes, officials said on Monday.
Congress nominee Asha Bhise secured 6,871 votes to defeat her sister-in-law and BJP candidate Sarita Bhise, who polled 6,869 votes, in the Kamkheda Zilla Parishad group election held in Renapur tehsil.

The razor-thin victory highlighted the intense contest between the two major parties at the grassroots level and underscored the importance of every single vote in local body elections.
Counting of votes for elections to 12 Zilla Parishads and 125 Panchayat Samitis across the state began at 10 am on Monday. However, the Election Commission is yet to release an official consolidated update on the overall results.
