Congress demand to stall delimitation of Panchayat wards

PANJIM: Congress Party on Thursday demanded to hold on the process of delimitation of village panchayat wards and to extend the time for public to submit suggestions and objections to it. Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat said that the State Election Commission (SEC) has started process of redrawing of panchayat wards in a hurriedly manner. Kamat pointed out that most of the village panchayats are against it said alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to manipulate the delimitation of panchayat wards to suit them. Kamat said that the process of delimitation of wards of local self bodies was entrusted to SEC so as to avoid political interference. The Opposition Leader demanded that the ongoing process is kept on hold that more time be given to the people to submit their objections and suggestions to the proposals. The SEC has extended last date for the submission of objections and suggestions up to March 4.
