PANJIM: The Congress party has resolved to oppose the BJP government initiated Ordinance to dilute and weaken the land acquisition or ‘The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Act 2013.’
“We don’t understand why the NDA/BJP government is amending the act, especially the consent clause…. The BJP earlier supported the Act. Today the same party is seeking to amend the Act,” Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Luizinho Faleiro told the media.
“The reason is simple. They want to bring the Gujarat model to the entire country. Crores of square metres of land are being taken from farmers for paltry amounts such as 30 paisa per square metre and given to corporates for 50 paisa. They then sell it for thousands of rupees per square metre,” Luizinho argued.
The GPCC also resolved to condemn acts such as desecration of places of worship of minorities and attacks on minority religious institutions and communities, calls for Ghar Wapsi by right wing organizations which are purely intended to threaten the secular identity of our country.
