PANJIM: Mapusa police sleuths, who have been assigned to crack the unsolved murder case of Nigerian Obodo Uzoma Simeon are looking out for eight locals, who are suspected to have been involved in the killing.
Police sources said the youth, most of whom are reportedly from Chapora, have been identified.
“We have launched a massive search for the accused persons involved in the fatal attack. The police teams are combing all the suspicious locations,” said a police officer who declined to disclose their names.
The police attached a Toyota Innova car, on Monday, which was allegedly used to ferry Simeon’s body from an unknown location where he was probably put to death, to Parra. Besides, more than 25 two-wheelers were also attached for the purpose of investigation.
“All those having links with the absconding boys are being questioned…We are keeping a track of the movements of every suspect,” the officer said.
According to a complaint filed by the victim’s friend Obinna Paul Obi, around 10 to 20 unidentified locals, in the age group of 30 years, assaulted him and Simeon with chopper and iron rods. The victim was also chased by the same local group who later stabbed him to death on the night of October 30.
The NRI Commission in Goa has meanwhile alerted the Indian High Commission in Nigeria to protect its citizens living there after a Nigerian diplomat warned that Indians would be thrown on the streets if Goa government does not stop evicting Nigerians. Sources in the commission confirmed the situation is normal in Nigeria as of now.
“Hardly any Goan NRIs live in Nigeria. Most of them are settled in Kenya and Tanzania…In case a problem is reported, we will approach the Indian government and the Indian Embassy to safeguard our people there,” a source said.
