PORIEM: Suspecting involvement of more people in the hunting of wild boar which claimed the life of a youth at Nanus, Valpoi, the police on Friday launched an operation to search several houses in a bid to recover country-made guns.

During the course of investigations, the two accused remanded in police custody have revealed that there were many country-made guns and other types of weapons used for hunting.
Bicholim DySP Jivba Dalvi told
O Heraldo that the search operation was underway at Nanus and will be carried out across the Sattari taluka during the next few months.
“We will search each and every house as we have credible information that people have country-made guns used for hunting of wild boar. We appeal to the people to surrender such weapons, failing which stern action would be taken against those found possessing these illegal firearms.”
More arrests are in the offing as the police had now enough information about who provided logistics to the accused to kill wild boar since they wanted it for a function.
“We will find out who were these people who provided logistic including a vehicle to the three accused and who wanted wild boar meat for a family function,” Dalvi said.
On Christmas day, 22-year-old Samad Khan from Nanus, Valpoi was killed allegedly due to gunshot. Samad along which his uncle and a friend had gone to the forest at Patwal, Sattari to hunt a wild boar.
The Valpoi police have arrested Babu Sanghar and Noor Ahmede Patel both hailing from Chinchmal-Mauxi, Valpoi. The police have recovered two ‘illegal firearms’ loaded with cartridges along with other ammunitions.
Meanwhile, both the accused have been remanded in four days police custody and Valpoi PI Videsh Shirodkar is conducting further investigations under the guidance of Jivba Dalvi and overall guidance of North SP AkshatKaushal, IPS.
