PANJIM: A convicted former Customs officer, who has been evading imprisonment sentence, has been directed by the High Court of Bombay at Goa to surrender himself before the Special Court within three weeks.

Louis Rodrigues, aged 68 years, is a convict under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Special Judge, Margao, in 2010, had convicted him for the offence followed by his appeal before the High Court.
The single Bench of Justice M S Sonak had in October 2020 dismissed his appeal and granted Rodrigues six weeks time to surrender. The retired officer thereafter filed a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court but it hasn’t been heard expeditiously due to the intervening vacation and other concomitant facts.
His counsel, therefore urged the High Court to extend the time for surrender by three more weeks, especially, given the applicant’s advanced age.
