VASCO: The Cortalim-Quelossim Panchayat has decided to issue show cause notice to the alleged illegal scrap yard located inside IDC at Verna. The decision was taken following a joint inspection held by the panchayat in presence of other concerned officials of state administration including Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), Verna IDC officials, and local comunidade besides the Verna police on Wednesday.
“Following complaints from locals we held a joint inspection and we found that the said scrap yard operator had illegally stored all pharma and other industrial hazardous waste in his scrap yard. We were surprised to note that such waste was dumped in the scrap yard without taking any safety precautions, therefore we have now decided to issue show cause notice to the party and have also requested other officials of state administration to take action against the scrap yard”, Cortalim-Quelossim Panchayat Sarpanch Hilario Figueiredo.
“Similarly even panchayat would take appropriate action against the scrap yard as we have not given any permission to operate,” Hilario added.
