MARGAO: The controversial Costa ground issue has come back to haunt the Margao Municipal Council – this time the ruling panel headed by Chairperson Dayanand Deulkar.
The Aquem Ground Bachao Association has asked the two Margao Municipal Councillors Damu Shirodkar and Avinash Shiordkar to approach the newly-elected MMC chairperson and the new ruling panel to revoke the construction licence issued for a housing project on Costa ground.
The decision was taken at the committee meeting of the Association held on October 21. The meeting pointed out that both Damu and Avinash had stood with the AGBA in their fight to retain the Costa ground.
Association General Secretary Andrew Sequeira said that both Damu and Avinash had earlier expressed their difficulty to act in favour of AGBA on the plea that then Chairperson Arthur D’Silva and his panel was not favouring revocation of the construction licence.
The two Councillors have been set a 15-day deadline to get the construction license revoked, since their panel is enjoying majority in the Council.
