CANACONA: The accused in the Cotigao sarpanch assault case has filed a counter complaint at Canacona police station against the complainant and another four of his associates for wrongful restrain and assault on him on Saturday morning when he was on his way to report for duty.
Adding a new twist to the incident in which Cotigao Sarpanch Umesh Gaonkar had complained to Canacona police that one Genu Velip working as a driver at Canacona police station abused and assaulted him on Saturday morning and acting on the complaint, Canacona police had arrested the accused under Section 324 and 504 of IPC and later released him on personal bond in the evening of Saturday.
It may be recalled that Gaonkar was admitted to Canacona health centre (CHC) and as his blood pressure and blood sugar levels where reported higher than normal he was shifted to Hospicio Hospital at Margao.
The accused Genu Velip after getting released on personal bail at 9.30 pm submitted in a written complaint to Canacona police alleging that when he was riding his two wheeler to report for duty at Canacona police station where he works as a driver, Cotigao Sarpanch Umesh Gaonkar and four of his associates blocked his way and started uttering bad words to him and pushed him to the ground and held him in that position till his wife came to his rescue.
He also stated that to escape from the clutches of Gaonkar and his other four associates he bit the arm of Gaonkar in self defence. Adding further he stated that his mobile phone was also damaged by Gaonkar.
Speaking to Herald, Genu Velip said that the complaint filed by Gaonkar is false and baseless and in reality Gaonkar and his other four family members abused and assaulted him on Saturday morning resulting injuries on his neck, head and shoulder.
Speaking to this correspondent from hospital bed at Hospicio hospital, Umesh Gaonkar said that he would request for an impartial investigation by crime branch so that the truth is revealed.
