PANJIM: The Bombay High Court at Goa stayed the demolition of the slums at Moti Dongor till further orders, based on a plea by the residents that the government has not made any alternate arrangements for their stay despite they being residents there for many years.
In interim orders the HC granted relief to the petitioners.
The orders came after the Advocate General argued that the notices were issued to the residents based on orders of the same court, which had earlier asked the government to demolish the structures in six months.
If the court is willing to give more time we would have no objection, the AG argued. Earlier the advocates for the petitioner said that the government had not made any alternate arrangements for the residents despite being there for many years.
The beleaguered residents are pinning their hopes on the judiciary to save their decades old structures.
The Comunidade Administrator had served the residents 10 days time to raze down the structures. Maulasab Balbatti, one of the petitioners in the high court had maintained that he failed to understand how the Administrator could pass the demolition order when their review petition was scheduled to come up for hearing in the HC.
