Court seeks report on VIP treatment to Mickky

MARGAO: South Goa District and Sessions Principal Judge Nutan Sardessai on Tuesday sought a report from the Superintendent of Sada Jail Gaurish Shankhwalkar on the alleged VIP treatment being given to former minister Mickky Pacheco. She directed that the report be submitted to her within a week through the Inspector General of Prisons, Elvis Gomes.

Judge Sardessai was taking cognizance of a complaint filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues. Adv Rodriguez complained that Mickky was taken to Goa Medical College on June 2 and 5 without the mandatory jail uniform. He further stated that Mickky continued to snub the uniform, while jail authorities looked away as he was very influential. He also alleged that Pacheco was being allowed to use mobile phones in jail.
Adv Rodrigues stated that every convict should be strictly dealt with within the  jail rules.
, and that Mickky could not be given preferential treatment.
Judge Sardessai, who holds judicial supervision over Sada Jail’s functioning, is empowered to report any illegalities to the High Court.
Meanwhile, Adv Rodrigues on Wednesday lauded Goa Director General of Police T N Mohan, who was under intense political pressure for strongly opposing Mickky’s application for a 30-day parole with the claim that his mother was very serious.
Mickky is currently undergoing a six-month sentence at Sada Jail for assaulting a junior engineer in 2006.
