MARGAO: The Tourism Department on Tuesday razed down a portion of a shack at Colva beach this morning, before a local court stayed the operation till further orders.
The demolition operation had to be stopped midway after the shack owner obtained a stay on the operation.
Tourism Deputy Director Pamela Mascarenhas told newsmen that the shack was being razed down since the party Rasio Fernandes did not obtain the licence from the Tourism Department. “The party was even issued a notice to obtain licence, but there was no reply, prompting the department to initiate action”, she said.
Replying to a question, she said the department had come prepared to raze down the shack, but managed to demolish only a portion following the court order.
