The Margao Municipal Council must have so far spent over Rs 30 lakh to cover the Sonsodo dumping yard every monsoon in the last five years to prevent leachate from flowing into the storm water nullah.
And, this monsoon isn’t going to be anything different. With just three months for the monsoon, the MMC sanitary section is bracing up to float a tender to cover the dump yard with tarpaulin sheets with the government and the Margao civic body unable to either cap the dumping site or segregate the existing waste.
Sources said that the civic body is left with no option than to cover the Sonsodo dump yard with tarpaulin in view of the High Court order.
