PANJIM: Chief Secretary B Vijayan admitted the need to impart training to heads of government departments to maintain a better employer-employee relationship and deliver efficient service to the public while reacting to suggestions made by Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA).
The GGEA had cited several examples of unwarranted suspensions of employees in various State government departments.
Speaking on several plans and policies to revamp the State administration including the recruitment process, training and promotions, Vijayan said that he has already apprised the chief minister about the requirement to settle the issue of parity of pay scales, and informed that the CM has directed him to arrive to some settlement with them.
Vijayan who was the chief guest at the blood donation camp organised by the GGEA at Multipurpose Hall of the Directorate of Art & Culture at Patto-Panjim, promised that he would ensure that GGEA representatives would be in some committee for redressal of grievances of the employees and to suggest better conditions for the working class.
Earlier, V Naik, Director of Industries, Trade and Commerce had suggested that GGEA be engaged in grievance redressal of the government employees so that they get their problems redressed in the minimum possible time. He also mooted the need for constitution of Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM) and expressed the need for drafting housing policy for government employees on lines of housing co-operatives and early settlement of pension cases. Naik also suggested that the government could grant comunidade land to retiring government servants at concessional rates as it becomes very difficult for the retiring employees to own plot due to the high cost of land in Goa.
Earlier, John Nazareth, General Secretary welcomed the gathering and M L Shetkar, President of GGEA mooted the need for imparting training to heads of departments to avoid frequent unwarranted suspensions and harassment meted out to the low-rank government employees.
