Returning Officer for Ponda, Shiroda, Marcaim and Priol constituencies, Johnson Fernandes on Monday asked the excise inspector to issue orders to liquor wholesalers and retailers to stop sale of liquor after 10 pm.
The order has been issued in an effort to curb the use of alcohol to influence voters for the ensuing Assembly elections.
In his order, Fernandes said as per the Election Commission guidelines, no liquor in any form or manner can be distributed in bulk to lure electorate which leads to lopsided affairs pointing that many wholesalers and distributors, including retail outlets have been selling liquor in an unorganized manner without maintaining proper records.
“A 24-hour helpline has been set up for reporting violations of the model code of conduct for election at the Ponda Mamlatdar’s office and the phone no is 2313121,” informed Fernandes.
Directions have also been given to remove names of ministers and politicians from the buses provided to schools under Indira Bal Rath Yojana scheme and also to stop construction work of road at Shiroda, as it was in violation of model code of conduct.
