National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme Deputy Director Dr Anant Palekar, said that controlling dengue is a little difficult unless the breeding of the mosquito – aedes aegypti – is cut at the source.
“I appeal people to take all precautions. Don’t allow water to accumulate in containers in the house. Flower pots, water stored in small containers inside or outside the house, then garbage, can be ideal for breeding of the mosquito. We advise people to stop mosquito breeding at source,” he said. He said that water containers or any item that has water stored should be cleaned regularly.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has already issued instructions to Directorate of Health and Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) to carry out fogging operations around educational institutions where the mosquitoes rest.
The Minister said fogging will be taken up with the support of Directorate of Panchayat and Municipal Administration, wherever required. “This will help eradicate such diseases. Government is very serious as far as cases of dengue in the State are concerned,” he said.
