MARGAO, OCT 19
Residents of Davorlim have served an eight-day deadline on the district authorities to stop the illegal parking of trucks near the Aquem Power House junction or threatened to come on the streets and launch an agitation against the nuisance.
The residents led by Anand S Sawant and others of Layamati-Davorlim submitted a memorandum to the district Collector contending that truck parking near the junction was causing hardships to the motorists from Davorlim entering Margao city, adding that the presence of large number of trucks was blocking the view of the main road, causing accidents.
“As a rule, no truck could be parked near the junction. The Citizens of Davorlim have been the worst sufferers and they had on an often alert the government to make necessary arrangements for the trucks by making available to them the parking facility”, the residents in their memorandum.
Anand said the residents will have no option than to come onto the streets if the government fails to remove the illegal parking with immediate effect. “It is unfortunate that the traffic authorities have till date not cracked a whip against the illegal truck parking inspite of objections raised by the residents”, he said, adding that the residents will continue with the agitation till the illegal truck parking is stopped by the authorities.
Incidentally, goods trucks entering and moving out of the city are found parked along the roads from the Power house right upto the Gogol junction for want of a truck terminus in the commercial Capital.
