Decision on beef ban in 3 months

PANJIM: According to Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, the Goa government will decide on the beef ban in the next two or three months after it examines the issue from all angles.

His statement comes a few days after BJP’s national president Amit Shah stated there would be no beef ban in India, and that BJP-ruled states, including Goa, would consider the people’s sentiments before imposing a ban.
A third of Goa’s population, mostly Christians and Muslims, are beef-eaters. They consume between 24 – 26 tons of beef daily.
At a recent meeting with the BJP president, the ‘minority’ MLAs pointed out the implications of banning beef in the state. They also reminded him that the BJP had come to power in Goa due to the minority.
