MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council at its special meeting today decided to decide about using the blackhole technology to clear the garbage dump at Sonsodo only after being briefed by the proponents on the technology and also provided other government agencies clear the technology.
At the special meeting held today Chairperson Dr Babita Prabhudessai who had seen the technology being used in Bangalore proposed that the council resolve to give a NOC to the company provided the government agencies approve the technology.
She did share her experience of visiting the plant and admitted that the garbage dealt in Bangalore was totally different from the type found at the Sonsodo dump site. “In Bangalore they get lot of kitchen waste and daily waste whereas at Sonsodo we have mixed garbage with a lot of mud, metal, glass, shoes and all types of material,” she said.
She also informed that the plasmalysis technology will not be able to deal with glass and metal waste and also mud and construction debris. That is when the councilors cutting across their party affiliation, said that they wanted to know more about the technology.
It was then decided that the project proponent ECHO Properties Pvt Ltd be invited to give a power point presentation to the councilors for which even the Goa State Pollution Control Board and the Solid Waste Management Corporation representatives along with some prominent citizens be also invited.
Speaking to media persons Dr Babita said she had asked the proponents to give her a complete proposals specifying how and where the residue will be disposed. “I have asked for details like where the fly ash will be disposed and what will be done with the tar,” she said.
Replying to a question she said electricity was not generated at the Bangalore plant because the necessary add on was not attached to the plant. “Personally I want to see to it that the dump site that has been haunting us for the last 20 years is done away with,” she said.
