CALANGUTE: Anjuna residents won the first battle against the builder involved in illegal constructions in Anjuna-Caisua. On Friday, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) served a demolition notice on the builder for damaging forest areas and a historical site.
GCZMA highlighted various illegalities, including hill cutting, construction of permanent concrete structures in CRZ areas, and construction of a road and helipad in the hilly areas of Chapora. 24 illegal structures in survey no 354/2, 355, 354/7-A and 356/7A will be removed.
The locals have been fighting against the illegalities in the CRZ areas for a while. They brought the issue to the GCZMA’s notice. While inspecting the site, the GCZMA observed gross violations and irregularities.
It directed the Collector and North Goa District Magistrate to initiate action accordingly, while calling for the Anjuna-Caisua panchayat to coordinate with the deputy collector and Bardez SDO for removal of the structures.
The Directorate of Archives and Archeology also directed the builder to immediately stop the hill cutting and remove the illegal road and barbed wire fencing to protect the historical site. Its letter reads, “As per Section 18 (1) and (2) of the Goa Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1978 and Rules 1980, order has been served to M/s Diana Buildwell Pvt Ltd to immediately stop the hill-cutting and to remove the illegal road and barbed-wire fencing.”
