PANJIM: The issue of scurrying to give appointment letters in the early days of the election code of conduct, has come back to haunt the head of the Animal Husbandry Department with the Election Commission directing the chief secretary to suspend him for poll code violation.
Joint Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti has sent written orders to the chief secretary asking that Director of Animal Husbandry, Siddhivinayak Naik be suspended and an Action Taken Report be submitted by January 31.
Sources say Naik has been found guilty of offering job letters to 140 candidates while the election code of conduct is in force.
The Election Commission was probing into the files of at least seven government departments, prominent among them the health and electricity departments, for offering job letters while the code of conduct was in force. It is not known whether action against heads of other departments would be forthcoming.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had raised a huge hue and cry over the “illegal” appointments saying they were being done to woo voters.
