He has also silenced all critics by clearly stating unequivocally that he will contest the next Assembly election in Goa. In a tweet, he said, “This opportunity to fight to protect Goa at the national stage only strengthens my resolve to actively ensure we form the government in Goa. Goa is my first and last priority. I will continue striving to represent my people in the upcoming Assembly elections.”

Reacting to his proposed nomination, Faleiro said he was humbled once again and expressed his profound gratitude to the Chairperson of AITC and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Goans would find a voice in Parliament now to raise its issues with the help of TMC, Faleiro said.

The Trinamool Congress tweeted from its official handle, “This is a historic step towards giving national representation to the voice of Goans.”

There was an outpouring of support and best wishes from the Goa TMC and others.

TMC member and former MLA Lavoo Mamledar congratulated Faleiro for being selected to enter the Rajya Sabha on the TMC nomination from West Bengal. This was a promise given to Faleiro by Mamata Didi and she has kept her promise, Lavoo underlined.

Rajendra Kakodkar, who had joined the TMC along with Faleiro, congratulated Goans, since another Goan had entered the Indian Parliament. He also congratulated Faleiro and TMC workers since Faleiro was the first TMC Parliamentarian from Goa.

Another TMC Member Doris Texeira said, “It was a historic day since Luizinho Faleiro is to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Today Goans have a voice at the national level. Goa TMC is not empty words, but it is action,” Texeira added.

Activist and newly inducted TMC member Arturo D’Souza said, “It is a big boost for Goa TMC. The voice of Goa will be heard, in the Rajya Sabha through Luizinho Faleiro and it is good for Goa.”

Former MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho said, “ Nomination of TMC which has paved the way for Luizinho Faleiro’s  Rajya Sabha entry is indeed, a matter of pride for all Goans. This speaks aloud, that TMC is in Goa with a purpose. And this nomination undoubtedly is an answer to all those (disgruntled rumour mongers), who were concerned about Mamata Banerjee supposedly ‘not receiving’ Luizinho Faleiro’s calls”.

Two-time chief minister Luizinho Faleiro joined the TMC two days after quitting from Congress in September 2021. Faleiro joined the TMC in Kolkata in the presence of Sougata Roy and Subrata Mukherjee. Later he met the TMC Chief and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with a few other leaders from Goa.

Faleiro was appointed National Vice President of TMC on 22nd October 2021, ahead of the visit of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to Goa.

The bypoll to Rajya Sabha in West Bengal is scheduled on November 29. It is being held following the resignation of TMC MP Arpita Ghosh on September 15 this year. Her term as Member of Upper House was to end in April 2026.
