PANJIM: Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar on Thursday agreed to take up with hoteliers in Goa, the issue of collection of 10 per Service Tax from customers for dispensation to their employees.
Parulekar said that the matter would be taken up with hotels categorised three star and above and he would ask the chief minister to intervene in this matter as well.
The issue was raised by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo who drew the attention of the House during Zero Hour that the levy of Service Tax should be made mandatory by all hoteliers as it will benefit local Goans employed in the hospitality industry. he said that only a few hotels in Goa are levying this 10 per cent Service Tax which is a mandatory provision all over the country.
