MARGAO: While illegal landfilling continues to be a raging issue in Seraulim, a fresh complaint has been filed in this regard within the jurisdiction of the Seraulim Village Panchayat, specifically at the western bypass road near the wholesale fish market.

The complainant alleged that unauthorised landfilling was taking place in a sensitive area, violating environmental regulations and potentially causing harm to the surrounding ecosystem. In response to this, a flying squad from the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department conducted an inspection of the site on Monday.
It is important to note that residents of the Seraulim Panchayat have previously raised concerns about ongoing activities related to the sale of fish and the parking of fish-carrying vehicles at the location. These activities are believed to be taking place without the necessary clearances or permits from the relevant authorities.
Locals have also expressed frustration over the panchayat’s issuance of a trade license for the site, which did not specify the type of business that would be conducted, further compounding the confusion and concerns in the community.
With this new complaint regarding landfilling, the issue of illegal activities has now put the panchayat under scrutiny. The TCP has acknowledged the complaint and assured that an investigation will be carried out to verify the allegations. Local authorities are expected to take immediate action if the claims are substantiated, with potential penalties and corrective measures if any zoning or environmental laws are found to be violated.
