The complaint filed by activist Avinash Tavares has sought the disqualification of the former sarpanch under Section 10 and 12,sub-section 4 of section 55 of the Panchayat Raj Act on the grounds that Rodrigues had voted and participated in an issue that relates to his defence against a complaint of corruption filed against him.
Tavares pointed out that in regard to a complaint of corruption by a local villager against Rodrigues, the panchayat had a meeting in which a resolution was passed to return the air-conditioner (AC), which Rodrigues allegedly asked the complainant in exchange for an occupancy certificate.
Tavares, had previously filed a complaint in the ACB against Rodrigues and also against the Secretary of the panchayat for not forwarding the complaint to Block Development Office (BDO) in accordance with the Panchayat Raj Act.
In a panchayat meeting held on April 16, Tavares accused Rodrigues of voting in his own defence to settle
the matter.
