PANJIM: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Wednesday issued notices to MLAs Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo in a disqualification plea filed against the duo in July.

Congress State President Amit Patkar had filed a petition before the Speaker seeking disqualification of Kamat and Lobo for trying to engineer a split in the party.
Legislature Secretary Namrata Ulman in an order confirmed that the notice has been served to Kamat and Lobo asking them to present for the hearing on December 16 at 12 pm.
“The petition for disqualification under paragraph 2(1)(B) of the Tenth Schedule read with Article 191(2) of the Constitution of India and read with the Members of the Goa Legislative Assembly (Disqualification on Ground of Defection) Rules, 1986 will be taken up on December 16 at 12 pm in the Speaker’s Chamber at the Assembly Complex at Porvorim,” Ulman said.
Kamat and Lobo – now part of BJP legislative wing – were accused of anti-party activities and for hatching conspiracy to weaken the principal opposition party. In September, Kamat and Lobo along with six other MLAs defected and joined BJP.
