SANGUEM: Acting on the report “SMC criticised for delay in construction of Rest House” which appeared in Herald dated October 31, the Director of Municipal Administration called on the office of Sanguem Municipal Council and sought detailed report on the project work and reasons behind the delays since the commencement of construction work five years back.
Sources informed that the DMA issued directions to the municipality to get the project work completed at the earliest and to get in touch with the contractor to expedite the work.
“The DMA has also asked the council to take stringent action against the contractor and if need be to forfeit the security deposit if the contractor fails to get the work done at the earliest,” sources said.
Following the directions issued by the DMA, the council is expected to table the issue of the incomplete Rest House at the monthly meeting to be held next week.
Reliable sources informed that soon after the directions of the DMA, the council got in touch with the contractor and directed him to complete the pending work at the earliest.
The contractor has now reportedly increased the pace of the pending work which was otherwise undertaken at a snail’s pace.
It may be recalled that the construction of the Rest House was undertaken by the Sanguem Municipal Council at the cost of Rs 1 crore which was sanctioned to the council by then chief minister late Manohar Parrikar-led government under Golden Jubilee Fund of Goa Liberation.
