Don’t fall prey to fraudsters, Church body cautions faithful

PANJIM: The Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media has cautioned people/devotes falling prey to fraudsters, who are collecting donations in the name of the priests.

According to DCSCM Director Fr Bary Cardozo, for the last few days, some priests have reported that unknown persons have created Social Media accounts in their names and are requesting help from the faithful via a UPI payment.

Fr Cardozo has clarified that none of the Church priests are in need of money, and that it had not authorised anybody to collect donations on its behalf. If any faithful have received any such message, then to immediate call or contact the priest concerned to verify the facts, he said.

Fr Cardozo further stated that this matter is being pursued by the Church so that necessary action is taken against the fraudsters.

Though the amount of fraud was not available, the Church body had alerted the people not to fall prey to fraudsters.
