SANGUEM: Government Primary Health Centre (Sanguem) Health Officer Dr Uday Kakodkar, Sanitation Inspector Vassudev Naik and other officials interacted with residents of Kalay at Somnath Sports Club, Kalay-Sanguem on Thursday, following the death of a 79-year-old man from Costi Kalay due to swine flu.
The meeting was largely attended by the villagers, who were keen to hear from health officials regarding precautionary measures, given the panic in the village since the death of the 79-year-old man due to the disease.
Speaking to residents, Dr Kakodkar spoke at length on various precautions and misconceptions surrounding the dreaded disease, emphasising that the disease should not lead to ostracisation of people from the community.
“Just because a family member died of swine flu, it does not mean that all his family members are affected by the disease,” insisted Dr Kakodkar. “You should not to look at the other family members of the victim as untouchables.”
Dr Kakodkar made the people aware of how the disease could be contracted and avoided. He also spoke on the symptoms leading to swine flu and urged the villagers to contact the health centre, if anyone encountered symptoms similar to that of swine flu.
Later, the team of health officials visited the Government High School at Kalay and nearby areas to guide students, staff and people on symptoms and precautions to be taken in case of swine flu.
