MARGAO: With monsoons around two and half months away, local residents of Ambaji-Fatorda have cried foul over the inordinate delay in completing the South Goa district hospital under construction.
The residents said the authorities should step in immediately with the monsoons round the corner and save them from yet another round of malaria in the locality.
A resident Jose Caeitano Miranda said the residents were hit by malaria over the last two years during monsoons due to the accumulation of stagnant waters at the basement of the building under construction.
”Our families were affected by malaria due to water stagnation in the basement of the district hospital. We do not know our fate this time round with the building still remaining incomplete,” Miranda said.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said he will once again raise the issue of the district hospital with the government. He warned of action if the government dilly dallies on the hospital project.
‘The district hospital project under construction has been under the scanner of the citizens and the media over the last two years. I demand that the government resume work at the hospital and complete the same at the earliest,” he said.
Margao urban health Officer Dr Sanjay Dalvi said that the Health centre had introduced fish in the accumulated water in the basement of the building as a precautionary measure.
“We have taken the precautions by introducing fish in the water. But, I have no idea when work on the hospital building project will resume. The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation is involved in the construction work,” Dr Dalvi said.
