The Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) has raised serious concerns over alleged police inaction in a case involving the harassment and mental torture of a senior citizen with a disability in Verna.
DRAG stated that despite repeated complaints, police have failed to take timely action against the accused neighbour, who allegedly assaulted and mentally abused the elderly victim. The association said it has formally taken cognisance of the matter and is pushing authorities for an urgent resolution.
DRAG President Avelino De Sa emphasised that harassment, abuse, and mental torture of a person with disabilities is a cognisable offence, punishable under Sections 6, 7, and 92 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The organisation urged the police to act without delay and ensure justice.
