Aggrieved by persistent power outag es and voltage fluctua tions, the Dramapur-Sirlim panchayat has sought the intervention of Velim MLA Cruz Silva to find a lasting solution to the recurring electricity problems affect ing the area. A memorandum was sub mitted to the MLA on Tues day by panchayat member Melba Joshila Gomes on be half of the Dramapur-Sirlim panchayat, highlighting that the frequent interrup tions in power supply have been causing hardship to residents and damaging household appliances. “Frequent power outages and fluctuations are caus ing damage to appliances and disrupting daily life. We appreciate the efforts of the electricity engineers and linesmen, but the fre quent outages persist due to systemic issues,” Gomes stated in the letter. The panchayat urged the MLA to help ensure that the Electricity Department un dertakes long-term correc tive measures to provide a stable and reliable supply. Responding to the rep resentation, the MLA said the matter has already been taken up with the Electrici ty Department and that the proposals to resolve the issue are currently un der the tendering process. “To solve the long-pending power problem in Drama pur-Sirlim panchayat area, the above proposals had been discussed, and the files are for tendering,” Sil va said. According to the minutes of a meeting held earlier this year at the MLA’s office, the department had identified faults in the 11kV Dramapur feeder, which is about 35 years old, as a key reason for the erratic supply. Officials had discussed measures such as replacing damaged insulators and converting parts of the overhead net work passing through wa terlogged areas into an un derground cable system to improve reliability.
