PANJIM: Drishti Marine, the State-appointed professional lifeguard agency has issued an advisory as fierce winds and thunderstorms are likely in the State and sea conditions are expected to be rough along the coast.
According to the alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds is likely at isolated places in north and south Goa with wind speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour. The coast is expected to witness winds with a speed ranging from 40 kms and increasing up to 60 kms per hour on May 16.

Additionally, the sea is likely to be extremely rough and may witness fast currents and high waves on May 16. Rainfall activity is expected on May 16 or 17.
The IMD has also cautioned fishermen not to venture into the sea off Goa-Maharashtra coast and open sea from May 15 onwards until the rough seas subside.
Owing to the State curfew and present weather conditions, red flags have been posted across all beaches under Drishti’s surveillance indicating that these are strictly non-swim zones.
Lifeguards continue to monitor and patrol the beach stretches. An accident can take place at any time and our lifeguard force, which are trained in first aid CPR and AED are the first responders for any emergencies and medical interventions along the coast.
Drishti Marine checks the weather forecast with the IMD on a daily basis to keep a close tab on the weather conditions, states a press release.
